council swimming pools

on looking at opening times of my local swimming pools i noticed on all of them allocated "women only" times.there are non of these such for men.

i can understand it to a degree in today's PC nature and with no i have no interest/bothered in men only.

i read on the job centre plus website about a job which was and could only be for women(modeling womens clothes).

at the end of the advert it said along the lines that the job was exempt from some discrimination law set up in 2010

on the websites for the swimming there is no such statement why?

Ridiculous and sexist in my opinion, but may be due to a Muslim population.

you#ll probably find there is not much call for men only swimming sessions
I would imagine that they don't need to.

Women only classes are on a demand basis nothing to do with the current PC nature.

'Ridiculous and sexist in my opinion, but may be due to a Muslim population'

That alone is a ridiculous thing to say - there have been women only classes as far back as when I was a kid which is a long time - every part of the country I have lived in there have been women only classes and lot where there have been no muslims!!!

sorry who?
simple answer is because the law quoted in the job advert is employment law and not relevant to swimming sessions...Its called a genuine occupational requirement and means that for certain jobs, one gender (not sexual orientation) would be totally inappropriate and therefore they are excused for this job from complying with gender equality law.

my only problem is im on a low income cant really afford fancy places.my local pool has 3 occasions a week(adults only) when i am allowed to swim barring a wig and padding a bra*

not exact but the amount of times including mixed sessions women can swim is about 8

*joking
I once took my children to the swimming pool and was told they couldnt come in as it was swimming only. I said yes, that's fine - they want to go swimming. They said again, They cant - its swimming only.
Then I realised they were saying "It's women only." Doh.
Political correctness gawn mad

55 years ago in Kendal's pool they had a selected slot for "mixed bathing" - it was from 7 am to 8 am. How far we have come!
There may not be much call for men only swimming sessions, but there may be indignation at being barred as if they were 2nd class citizens from using the pool when the 1st class citizens get exclusive use. But such is the way society have always treated males in my experience, you must be used to it by now.

i was always under the impression the womens only sessions were so that woman who were uncomfortable being virtually undressed whilst men were arround, could get on with it and do some exercise. i would think this reaches back to the more puritan additudes of yesteryear
Never mind about 'women only' swimming sessions; such arrangements have been in existence for many decades, long before political correctness, which has nothing to do with it, existed; I remember 'ladies only' compartments on trains ! Why did the railway think they were necessary/
And Ladies Only waiting rooms in some railway stations.
