...there is a TV ad running at the moment asking this question. Well, the truth is, yes. This has been happening to me at night time for about a year (long before I saw the ad) and I really didn't know what to make of it. If I had been a bloke, I could have blamed the prostate! But now I'm a bit reluctan to see my GP about it because he may just think it's probably because I have seen the advert. I can go to the loo before I go to bed, watch TV for about 15 mins, fall asleep and half an hour later I wake up needing the loo again! Go back to sleep, and an hour later, I am up again to the loo. And I have seriously cut down on fluids. I don't have any fluids for at least 6 hrs before going to bed. Anyone else a sufferer?

Go to the GP - this is what the advert is for, after all - this frequency is too often, IMO. The GP wants you to go as a result of the advert - that's what NHS campaigns are all about!
The "biggy" is to rule out diabetes mellitus with a simple blood test.

Cold weather makes you go to the toilet more often to pass water.

No............I am not a sufferer........;-)

It isn't an NHS campaign - it leads to a website. The website offers advice about monitoring fluid intake etc.
If I've had a bedtime drink, I'll go before bed then may need to go again an hour later - but then that's it until the morning.
I go at least 3 times through the night, I am 64 and just take it as a part of getting old. If it worries you go to the GP.
Go to GP... you can say its because of the effect on your sleep pattern don't mention the ad if you are worried.. better to get it checked as loads of treatable reasons for it
I think I'd call it a campaign, smart, if it's a TV advert - it's an NHS publicity drive (part of the Health Checks initiative) to get people to look at these "minor" symptoms and seek advice.

Well sqad, I am always being tested for diabetes because of another condition I suffer from, so it isn't that. And as I say, I have been suffering for at least 12 mths, which would discount the 'cold weather' idea. I just don't want GP to think I'm jumping on some sort of medical 'bandwagon'. because I'm pretty sure the GP visits nationwide will have increased for this problem nationwide since the advert started it's run.
Yes, that's why they are running the advert, GPs are expecting more people to contact them!
smart.....if you are having this sort of "frequency of urination2 at night.......go to see you GP.....irrespective of TV adverts.

More questions need to be asked in your situation re. your urinary problems.

Boxtops - The longest I can go for any one periodrough the night is 2hrs. I have to get up 4-5 times a night. Must be why I always feel tired.
I don't want to sound like a parrot, but - go to your GP....
why does cold weather make you urinate more?
so you can have the nice warm feeling when it runs down your leg

Thanks for all replies - greatly appreciated. The weird thing is, when I recently went to a friends' party, had a few drinks, never had to get up once!
Fluffy...........I have no idea!
oh, lol i thought you'd be able to tell me, been bugging me for ages that has :-)
lol @ fluff's enquiring turn of mind :=)

mind you, it was so cold in my bathroom this morning that it wasn't that easy to find anything to urinate with ....
http://wiki.answers.c...ften_in_cold_weather.

also we are not losing so much in sweat so have some fluid to get rid of there

more likely we will be drinking more tea/coffee to keep warm which has caffeine (dieretic) so more input of a stimulant to higher output
mmm thank you

i wonder if it works in reverse if i drive a car with heated seats i need to pee all the time, its really annoying :-)
