Have recently been prescribed 10mg Amlodipine. Started off on 5mg to start
with but been increased to 10mg in the last 5 weeks. Since taking them
have been badly constipated. Reported this to my doctor but he just gave
me heavy duty laxatives. Surely this cant be good if I need laxatives
every other day. I'm also frightened to strain too hard because i have a
incisional hernia. The hospital wont do the op because of my high blood
pressure and other health issues. Any advice would be appreciated.

Forgot to mention, already on 8mg Perindopril and 50mg Atenlol as well.
try increasing your fluid intake a little maybe a glass of prune juice? and maybe try a stool softener as well as the laxative so you don't have to strain so much.... you may find it settles down if not go back to your Gp
Hi I have taken Amlopdine 10 mg for about 7 years also Atenolol 50mg it takes a while for your body to settle but as suggested drink more fluids especially water.
Hope this helps

Thankyou both for your advice, I shall visit my GP in the new year.
I take a excellent remedy called `Ispaghula Husk Orange` prescribed by my GP and is a pleasant orange bulk building soluble fibre with sweetener. Ask your GP if they will help you.
