I don't know much about an alcohol detox so I don't really know whether it gets easier for your son as time goes on or what ...........

If he has been alcoholic for so long his life will have revolved around it - I really hope that you and your son get through this. He must trust you very much to try this detox with you - it goes without saying that you love him (he is your baby boy) but you must be proud of him too.

Susan
i wish you the very best of luck.
Oh that's great masma. Yes, that's the same tablet as mine. It really does work and well done you for standing by your son, (as if you wouldn't)!!
If you need any help from me please just post on this post and I'll keep checking. All best wishes to you and your son. Chrissa. x
masma............over 4 days, great news, well done that boy !!!!!!!!
Good luck masma, it isn't going to be easy, let us know how it goes....

It's been one week, almost to the minute. Doc isn't coming in anymore but said how well my boy has done for his first week. Long may it continue!
Well done to your son, and to you for supporting him.
Masma, that's such good news and the first week has got to be the worst (hasn't it?). He's really lucky to have you taking care of him. Good luck to you both.

And.....Thank you all for supporting me! He's been so good this week that I'm looking for the fall-out. He's been very quiet which isn't like him so I've found him very hard work - guess I'm tip-toing around at the mo. Thank again everyone xxxx
masma, that's great news. The Campral take about two weeks to start working properly so he's nearly there.
I know this maybe a daft question but have you cleared the house of alcohol and do other family members drink in front of him? It is best if there is no temptation for him or for him to be in situations where other people are doing in front of him what he used to enjoy so much and now can't do.
In time, he will be able to handle these situations alright but for now and for quite a while, he shouldn't be around people who are drinking.
He can do it with all your good help.
great news masma, i hope you all continue to progress on his journey.
Avril, I have only just seen this thread, so glad I did. What wonderful news that your boy wanted to try so hard for this. I have no knowledge or experience to pass on to you but send you, your son and your family every good wish and support for a success in this endeavour. I imagine it will not be easy for all of you but the fact that he is trying and has done so well, so far, is brilliant news indeed. With much love, Viv ♥
Just keep it going - there may be slipbacks and that when your resolution and patience may be seriously tested. I hope not as do the rest of the folk around here. But hold true to what is dear to you..............
DT - well said.

Avril - sorry I forgot to say - "GOOD LUCK"
<not like me to omit anything> :) ♥
Thinking of u both and sending you best wishes remember ur not alone..x
I wish him and you best wishes. It's going to sound dreadful, but if he has reached his rock-bottom then the only way is up. If he hasn't, then he may, just may, have slip-ups. I do hoope he doesn't.

He is a very lucky man to have such a caring mum. Take care xx
I have only just read this post, and have to say that I am very proud of your son to want to change his life for the better. Even prouder of you for giving him all the support that he needs. Cant beat a Mothers love can you.
All the very best, good luck xx
Question Author
Once again - thank you all for your good wishes. I've been amazed at the help he's been getting from the NHS, he even went for acupuncture today!
Good to hear from you Viv - hope you and yours are well xxx
masma,
I keep popping back to see how things are going x
Question Author
I'll update if there's any news, all quiet at the moment - long may it last! I will say I'm pleasently surprised (hope I'm not talking too soon) He's not the strongest of people psycologically (sp) but he seems very possitive about this.
