I find it very difficult to understand women who still feed their children once they are past the baby stage, but I know some do - I worked with a woman who still fed her seven-year-old.
My daughter weaned herself at 14 months...which is how it should be IMO. Unless necessary to wean-going to work,etc-I think babies do it naturally when ready.
I found it to be a sad time-it had taken me ages to really settle in with breast feeding-so it was a bit of a wrench as it symbolised her growing up.
the quality of breast milk can deteriorate after a certain time, so the nutritional value is questionable,
My SIL nursed one of hers until she was 3...that's a bit OTT in my book!
IMO with the example I gave, it seemed to be more the mother's need than the child.

A girlfriend of mine breastfed her daughter until about 3 - her milk teeth rotted !
There's no set age tink. My s.i.l. fed her daughter untill she was 4, the little girl used to climb on her lap and undo her blouse buttons and help herself.

I did see a TV prog a while back where a mother was still breast-feeding her son and he was 8 years old.

well, my ex's wee brother was still being fed at 4 and we babysat one night.his dad said i had better watch out incase he went for me!! aargh!!!

tbh box i agree...it actually freaks me out a bit....however i did watch an amazing prog on people who feed kids in africa!??? amazing.

xx
i see nothing wrong with doing it as long as you like - and really the longer the better...

if people 'feel funny' about it (which is really the issue here) they can always continue expressing into bottles...

aah jem, not wanting to judge, each to their own i always say- for me personally thats quite old!

actually..i 100% believe that breast is best for kids- however...im 99% sure i will not breastfeed if i have kids, i really dont think i will. i would hate it i think xx
I guess in Africa it's a different set of circumstances, breast milk (as long as the mother is healthy) could be the only reliable nutrient they get.
if a child is sitting up on a sofa. undoing a button for breast feeding, im sorry i find that quite ridiculous, it reminds me of the sketch with david walliams ? *sp.
Question Author
box the woman who were feeding were strangers...- not the kids mothers xx

joko thats an interesting point actually because in bottles i dont feel as "wierd" about....and i am not a prude!!! so i wonder why i feel that way. x

now...they are having photoshoots of the kids and mums..........whilst breastfeeding!... aw come on now! xx
I breast fed my son until he was two years old.

Anneasquith, where have you got the idea that breast milk deteriorates over time from? The milk will stay nutritious for as long as you eat a healthy diet.
Well, I haven't grown out of it yet ! (LMAO @ "norks")
...not from me Mum of course, that'd be wrong !
