I have been prescribed some antibiotics erythromycin and the leaflet says not to take then at the same time as indegestion remedies. Why is this? I also take Omeprazole so will stagger the antibiotics through the day 4 hours after taking the omeprazole should this be ok?

I take erythromycin every day. I also take Lansoprazole for reflux, which I presume is similar to Omeprazole. I have had no issues taking them together. I take erythromycin for prophylactic, not therapeutic, reasons, so I don't know if that makes a difference.

thank you mike - I always read the instructions - sometimes scaring myself half to death with the possible side effects
A GP friend of mine told me that if everyone read the instructions no one would take any medication.
It always amuses me when I read, "Possible side effects include constipation/diarrhoea". One or the other, please!
granny.......I agree with mike and his GP....................go ahead.

Thankyou both - mind at rest
I'd imagine that indigestion remedies (such as those which line the stomach) inhibit the absorption of the antibiotics. I can't take erythromycin, it gives me the terrible trots. I hope you're OK on them, grannygrump!
boxy...Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor, reducing the amount of HCL produced by the stomach. It doesn't "line the stomach" in any shape or form.
