Are there any medics out there who can advise me please? Some time ago - not sure when, but months at least - I noticed that my tongue has developed a sort of dent on one side, near to the front. Pretty hard to describe, I'm afraid, but that's the best I can come up with. I noticed today that the bit behind the "dent" is looking rather swollen. There is no pain in the tongue and apart from the "dent" looking smoother than the rest of the tongue it is otherwise normal in appearance. I'm torn between reluctance to bother the doctor if it's nothing and needing reassurance that it is nothing. Any ideas?

Is the "dent" ulcerated.?
Are you a smoker?
Question Author
Not ulcerated and I am a fervent anti-smoker, although I have to admit to occasinl reluctant passive smoking when with friends.
Question Author
Occasional...
No big deal.....it is almost certainly a condition called "Geographical tongue"

Go to your GP for confirmation of the diagnosis.

Thank for that. Interesting name!
would a dentist be best perhaps?
Question Author
I'll see the GP first as Squad advised. I don't need an appointment to see him so it's easier. If he thinks it's a dentist problem I can see him next.
