I was found to have higher cholesterol levels than would have been preferred, and put on Simvastin. After a couple of weeks I began to suffer constant back pain, and my doctor told me to stop taking them, give them a rest for a week and start again. Once again the back pain returned. . The next tablet tried was Pravastatin, and once again - back pain .
I was put on Ezetimibe (Ezetrol) and it seemed that the problem had been solved and I suffered no side effects. That was about 15 months ago but once again, it seems as though the pain has returned to my back, and also, I am having itchy patches on my arms. Pain killers seem to have no effect, and it is definitely not the usual type of muscle strain .
Has anyone else had symptoms such as these when taking statins, and what was the end result - did you find something which did not cause side effects longterm.

I'm taking Ezetrol and I've been taking them for about three years now, just lately I have started with an itchy skin, (arms and legs mainly), but I haven't narrowed down the cause of it, new bath/shower gel, also washing detergent and conditioner could be the cause. I haven't had the dreadful muscle pain with these tablets that I had when taking Simvastatin or Prevastatin. Have you read the information sheet that comes with the tablets? If you aren't happy go back to the doctor.
I have been on Statins for many years and the first two kinds prescribed gave me stomach cramps. I am now taking Simvastatins which suit me fine with no problems.
I suggest you go back to your GP and try other medications until you find the one which suits you.
i have no problems on simvastatin.
I too had the same problems as yourself other than the back pain.My GP put me on Ezetimibe and I have been 100% better with the side effects since, other than I have the odd rash, which E45 will clear it up,for a time.I think your back pain could be another problem which needs attention, but not because of the above drug.See your GP again with regard to investigation into your back.Hope all goes well for you,I know all drugs have side effects, but they do more good than bad for us.
