i feel like a right fool, but i was too embarrassed to say i'd had an abortion in the past, which would go under the 'have you ever had an operation'. i will have to phone them up and tell them won't i? i feel so stupid, i just couldn't bring myself to say it out loud :(

This is only to determine whether there would be any circumstances in which you may have had to receive blood/have a blood transfusion; i.e. blood that's NOT yours.

I don't think your abortion falls into this category. Unless you know different, of course.

Relax..........:o)
I think this is because if you have had major surgery such as an operation in which you would have had to make use of comeone elses blood
Don't worry about it.
You cannot give blood if you have had an abortion in last 6 weeks
Your blood will be tested anyway, so don't sweat it.
I dont understand how you can say it on here and not to the person at blood donors, did you know them?

no it was a guy, and of course i can say it on here, no one knows who i am. just wanted some confidential advice, as i couldn't get anything off google
Yeah - as ummm said, don't worry about it. You won't be arrested for failure to disclose the op!
I understand pink - it's not always someone one wants to voice out loud to a complete stranger face-to-face. No need for you to ring back at all.
did he know who you were then? You shouldnt worry about it. Its all fine.
People are scared of being judged. People can hold strong opinions about abortion.

i just live in a small town where everyone knows everyone, and i can talk to my doctor for example about anything, but when it's someone new, and it's quite private, i just couldn't say it. i felt stupid throughout it all, but as everyone is telling me not to worry, then that's what i'll do! now..... i need sugar.... as advised.... where's the chocolate?!
It's irresponsible to omit or misrepresent answers when giving blood - you're potentially affecting other people's lives. Nevertheless your reluctance is quite understandable - and I'm very glad to see that you will now remedy it, they know best regarding suitability of blood for donation.
And well done on deciding to donate in the first place - so many people don't who are perfectly capable of doing so. Keep up the good work.
Exactly..... It's a personal decision for varying personal reasons and you should not feel obliged to reveal it to anyone unless it is absolutely relevant.
you should never feel stupid when you are doing something so special xx
Good you for giving blood, HP !

Something positive from a negative xx
