Do you mean like Weight Watchers or Slimming World pood?
Question Author
Hi lard, yep i hate slimming clubs
Personally I'd rather spend the money on fresh veggies and fruit! However, if you are the sort of person who needs the support of others who are sharing the same experience then perhaps the subscription would be worth it?
Don't you have to go along & get weighed every week? Then they all clap if you've lost a pound or (presumably) groan or sigh if you've put on weight. My friend goes but I couldn't stand the trauma/stress of it all (read - can't be @rsed!)
Think WW is great. I lost stone and a half on it last year and it changed my eating habits. Know loads of people at work who`ve been on it. They say well done if you`ve lost weight but don`t judge if you haven`t. You don`t have to stay for the talk afterwards to share opinions. If you can`t face the weight-ins you can do it online. Personally I found it more of a committment by going every week. You can buy a Monthly pass and save on meeting costs

Its a business they arent interested in you just making money
I did WW many years ago, and it certainly worked for me. It was good fun,and there was a lot of support from both the leader, and fellow members. Don't knock it if you've not tried it.
Question Author
Tried it years ago
Guess it does not work for everyone.
A bit like church....it works for some-others get nothing from it.
I agree...I went to WeightWatchers about 3yrs ago, lost 3.1/2 stone at the time within a year. I'm one of those people that needs encouragement and the support of others, they had recipes, ideas on health, diet, exercise, I made friends with the same 'problem' as me (being overweight). I stopped going after a year and unfortunately put some of the weight back on. I kept the books etc but find the willpower aint there when I've got no-one keeping a 'check' on me, so to speak. Some people like me just need the support and encouragement, others can quite happily do it themselves. It's all down to personal choice but I think it was worth it.
I'm doing the slimming world, easy plan diet. I do not go to a class, just doing it myself and sticking to it rigidly. Weigh once a week and it definitely works.
My mother-in-law used to 'go to class' so she told us what we're allowed etc. We don't even need to ask cause it's so easy. It's easier for me to stick to a diet rather than doing my own cause I'm not disciplined enough.
I think you're right Mustang. My friend who goes has already told she thinks it would be very un-me as she knows me well enough to know it wouldn't suit me.
Gyms, slimming clubs, diets, All need dedication, enthusiasm and determination on a long term, the more work and effort you put in the more benefits you shall reap.
About ten years after doing WW, I did Slimming world-on my own. It was a doddle-but only because I WANTED to. That's the secret to whichever you do.....single-minded determination.
OH has just ordered a Wii fit - does that count?
Its a start lardhelmet, and "Every little helps!"
Told him to get the Dancing one - I'll be on it all day, every day - I'll lose loads (always do when I start dancing again now the weather's getting better)
I have some friends who look great after going to slimming world, but I haven't tried it myself,
Question Author
I am not saying that they dont make people lose weight if they want to,what i am saying its a big money making industry
poodicat - if you have already formed an opinion about slimming clubs, why did you bother asking the question?
