i think i have heard that excersing at 60% of your theoretical maximum heart rate is best for fat burning. i also think i have heard that excersising above this, say at 75%, you will be burning muscle not fat. first, have i understood this correctly? second, so even if i barely break a sweat at 60%, if I want to burn fat i must resist the urge to work harder? i have a limited amount of time of 30 mins a day, so it is not possible for me to work less hard but sustain it for longer.

Are you a member of a gym? If so, speak to a trainer for advice. They will take into account your age, weight, level of fitness and sex (gender)! I've read recent articles purporting that short burst of activity e.g. 30secs to a minute at your most effort in running, xtraining, bike, rowing etc at ten reps gives you the optimum workout. I'll endeavour to find some links however try Google in the first instance. James.

hi d-james, no im not a member of a gym, just using an excercise bike at home with a heart rate monitor. great if you can find some links. i had been trying google but its all a bit contradictory and confusing for me.
As D_James says..short burst of activity “HIIT” or High Intensity Interval Training is one of the best ways to burn fat..
