Toothache professional or any advice please.

Hi,
Last year when i went on holiday while flying i got a toothache which was the most painful experiences of my life and the pain was unbearable it was like a massive thrubing pounding pain it would only start when i got up high an cabin pressure had built up and when the plane started to descent an dropped a great distance only then the pain would stop again, after that happened last year i went straight to the dentist were she had said something about cabin pressure an had asked was it causing me any pain at the minute i had said no cause it only starts when i go up on the plane she renewed the filling at that time.
1year later which was this week i went on holidays an excatly the same thing happened all over again when i got back on a plane the massive pounding pain came back. It is that sereve that i could not pinpoint where it was cumin from only that it was the left hand side of my mouth the pain got so bad i took 7 very strong pain killers i was in total agony. I pay a monthly amount to denplan and feel that i am not getting out of it what i should even if they were to work at my tooth i wudnt know until i was back up in the plane to know if it has gone away or not please share your views on what you think i should do thanks.

Have you had your ears checked as thet can react to air pressure changes?

will your health plan cover taking your dentist on holiday with you?

cabin pressure is lower than sea level pressure
your ears, nose and throat all allow the pressure to equalise (the same pressure which pops your ears), or whatever

if any of the ventilation in your head is blocked - the pressure can't equalise and it will cause discomfort or pain.

just because your teeth ache doesn't mean it's tooth ache

I tend to get a throbbing left temple because the left tube in my ear is narrow - it does pass though (for me)

dee...AC the Troll has summed it up very well and the only points I can add are as follows:

1) This is a dental problem and not an ENT problem.
2) Seek a dentist who has Panographic X-Ray facilities (OPG)
3)Take Ibuprofen 600mgms 45mins before take off.

ive never heard of this before-you should go to your gp about it too-and see a different dentist this time around-this is quite unusual and sounds debilitating. Dont let ur dentist fob you off. You can go for a second opinion. I dont think it has anything to do with the filling-as i suspect she thought it was a nerve (it sounds like a nerve being affected in some way as the pain you are describing matches it)-however for some reason the work she has done on the tooth is affecting the nerve in some way unrelated to the filling. A root canal may be in order here-where the dentist will remove the nerve from your tooth-and refill the gap with a filling. This would render the tooth obvlious to pain on the nerves.
It may be the only way.
