Hi, i cant find much help on the internet so thought i would ask u guys!!
My daughter is 8, and has had soreness around her vagina for a while, i took her docs and he gave me canisten and a mild steroid.
When applying cream last night i noticed her clitoris is swollen and hard, i applied cream she jumped and said it hurt when it is touched.
I have no idea what could be wrong and am worried about this, i would like to arm myself with some info b4 going to see the gp on monday, as he really is rubbish and i dont trust him! unfortunately we can move surgeries!
Apreciate any suggestions! Many thanks x

I would think its a wee infection of some sort, go back to the doc, may need antibiotics he shouldve taken a swab
When I was around her age, I crashed my bike and the seat really hurt me, to the extent that it broke my hymen. I remember my clitoris being the same as you describe, is there any chance she's been doing some kind of activity where she could hurt there?
Ask your doctor for a referral to specialist ASAP. This must be very upsetting for her.
You said you GP is not to your likeness, can't you change him?
Didn't you post something similar before? Forgive me if it's not you.

she doesnt seem to have hurt herself, she would have told me, but i will ask her in the morning.
She says it is sore, and i wish i had made the doc do some tests. He asked me what i thought was wrong then agreed with me and sent us on our way.. he did look tho!
Can i ask to be refered to a specialist? or does the doctor have to think she should be seen? can i sort of demand she sees a paediatric gynaecologist?
Thanks x
You should ask her, I remember not telling my mum I had hurt myself until I got a scare at seeing the blood that night.
There is no reason why your doctor can't refer her. If this has been going on for some time then it is obvious nothing the doc has prescribed has worked.

I wish i could change him, he is a partner in the medical centre, the other 2 docs are very good, but are semi retired and are hardly there so if you get an emergency appointment, or want an appointment within the month then this gp is the only one available... I have absolutely no faith in him at all.
I had severe depression last yr and contemplated suicide, i went to him crying and begging for him to help me as i was gonna do something stupid, he told me he would fax the mental health team!!!! Doesnt bare thinking what i could have done if my hubby wasnt with me24/7!!
Anyway, i am worried it could be serious, and would really appreciate any thoughts on what this could be, i am no good on researching on the internet.. Thanku to everyone!! x
I do feel for you Sheribee. If you feel you are not getting the treatment you deserve then you can complain to the General Medical Council: http://www.gmc-uk.org/concerns/

I don't know if this is of any help but have a look: http://www.sickkids.ca/Gynaecology/section.asp ?s=Clinical+Care&sID=5798&ss=Clinical+Referral +Guidelines&ssID=5806#disorders

Sorry I mean't this page: http://www.sickkids.ca/gynaecology/
Maybe you should ask her if anyone has been tampering with her. Sounds strange to me.

Thats great, so really then she should just have vaginal cultures before she is seen by the specialists.
Doc agreed with me when i said i thought she had vulvovaginitis and that link u sent says thats a reason to be refered too.
I would feel much better if she was actually seen by someone who knows what they are looking for!
thanks once again! x sheri x
Good luck Sheribee and hope your little one feels better soon. As you can see from that website these things are common so don't stress too much about it otherwise you will make yourself ill with worry.

Take care hun xxx

I know nobody has touched her in anyway shape or form!
She is extremely intellegent and i am very open with her, and she understands many things way beyond her age. She is well abpve her age at school.
i looked at the link tigerblue, thanku!! and i do feel better knowing that lots of gynae problems seem to be common in girls, and feel better armed to see the doc on monday with her! Thanku for the helpful comments, i knew someone would bring up sexual abuse coz it is unfortunately too common these days, but my daughter is definately not abused! But i did ask her if anyone else had touched her flower... she looked puzzled and said no! xx
Another angle on this could be if she drinks a lot of orange juice. It can be very acidic and can hurt her vagina when she wees. I had soreness when I was a child and I'm sure it was the orange juice. Mr Spudqueen can also get a burning sensation if he's drunk a lot of orange juice. This can be either squash or fresh orange.
I think the kindest thing you could do is to wait until Monday. Better to deal with it in the privacy of the doctors room rather than discussing her personal and private health problem with the whole world on the internet!
my daughter had the same thing about wo years ago i ended up taking her to the hospital a and e she had a temperature as well, they couldn't find anything wrong the next night i took her back again (well it was early hours in morning) she kept telling me her privates hurt, it was very red and swollen and again she had a temperature they done a water sample and it turned out she had a water infection.
You can take her to another surgery and ask to see a lady doctor. Just sign on as a temporary resident. Is there not a practice nurse who would take a look ?
