Reading Messalina's post about Kompo reminded me of our family cure all medecine.....
Guinness mixed with milk and sugar to a froth....to make us grow....well that didn't work....
Malt and cod liver oil........stuck to the roof of your mouth....

But the one I hated was Brooklax.....my mum made us eat a square once a day.....I would go into the dining room....climb on the windowsill and spit it out of the top window.....
Until the day the wind caught it and mum came in to see the sticky chocolatey mess sliding down the outside of the window...... :-(

Virol, thought often it ended up in my ear instead of my mouth if Mum was sleepy.

I was six and stole a bar of my Grandad's chocolate...... I was so,so ill for days. To this day I cannot eat or even smell dark chocolate without wanting to throw up!
I had a spoonful of cod liver oil every day..Yuk

I remember Virol too. THere was always a jar/tub in the bottom of the pram and my mother would dip the baby's dummy in it regularly.

My mum was a great believer in Sal Volatile. That was awful stuff. Down it went and a few seconds later back up it came. Ugh!
Syrup of figs is the one that I remember - with a venegance.
Oh and Indian Brandy for period pains... I'd rather have the period pains
Sulphur tablets......the smell!
I must be odd (well we knew that) loved the taste of Virol,Indian Brandy and still love Gripe Water.
A ritual taking of Haliborange tablets by the whole family every morning from September to March - supposed to ward off coughs and colds - 'useless' about covers it ...

I quite liked Indian Brandy, Mazie.
Not exactly medicine but does anyone remember the orange juice you used to get fron the baby clinic? So thick and syrupy and had to be diluted but must have been awful for your teeth.

Well I googled Virol and Sal Volatile....seems some schools had a Virol lady who dished it out for a penny.....
But Sal Volatile looks dangerous, Tilly!

Syrup of figs..now I do remember that....and Haliborange......never had Indian Brandy......
I loved the orange from the clinic....in little sort of milk bottles?......The clinic was next to the dentist, BD....just as well really....x
I loved Gripe Water, Mamya......maybe it was the alcohol in it..... :-)
