Shampoo & Skin Cream - And Well-Being ...

Becoming more eco-aware on the food we (have to!) eat, I wonder what components of Shampoo & skin cream are really necessary and offer **positive** results to one's body. Also, so-called special shampoos and skin creams for different 'types' of hair and skin. -
_Can anybody offer useful advice on these products?

I tend to buy from Body Shop, as they don't have all the usual horrible chemicals that most other shampoos etc have.
I haven't washed my hair for over 25 years and it's in brilliant condition - I rinse it every morning in clean water only.

rsvp: I like your suggestion. But, doesn't one need soap/shampoo, as one uses this for washing oneself/taking a shower?
_I thought the idea of "soap" with water was to remove dirty bits from the skin; the rinsing results in a cleaner skin/hair.

Here's an interesting suggestion: sodium bicarbonate + water. The former can also be used for cleaning. I will test this and give feedback. Hopefully, my hair won't fall out ...
