I have had UTI for ages and ages. I have been to a urologist and have been on antibiotics for over 3 months. I finished them a week or so ago and had the results of a test today, and low and behold I still have the infection. I have been down the cranberry road etc. and have had various courses of antibiotics. Should I be worried? I will go and see the urologist next week, but feel quite downhearted. I have heard that at my age,63, it is not unsual. I don't have terrible symptoms recently, although before this course I did. Has anyone else had this ? Any advice ?

Can't offer any medical advice except as a sufferer myself most of my life did the urologist actually get the specific bacteria causing it identified? This would help more in choosing the better antibiotic. I would assume they did.

Yes Prudie. E-coli. Sounds dreadful.
I'd never had a UTI in my life untill recently. I had two...probably the same one not cleared up..within three weeks. I then had two episodes of severe pain where my left kidney is.
Today I had a kidney and bladder scan which has shown a small stone in my left kidney. It would appear that this has been the cause of not only the pain but also, perhaps, the UTI.
Incidentally, my GP told me cranberry won't help once you have an infection but may help prevent one taking hold as there's 'some' evidence it stops bacteria sticking to the bladder wall. She wasn't convinced and neither am I but I've started taking one cranberry tablet daily...can't do any harm even if it doesn't do much good.
Hope you get it sorted.

Thanks girls. Maybe I will try the cranberry pils again. As you say, they can't do any harm. I will keep you posted after I see the urologist next week.
