I take Omeprazole daily and cannot miss if for a day without suffering extreme acid/burning in chest and throat. On Thursday I went to take it and realised I had ran out (I thought I had a box left) . I went straight to surgery and said yes I know I'm meant to give 48 hours notice for repeat prescriptions but I've literally ran out and will be in pain by tonight. Receptionist said she would try but they were short staffed. Doctor still hasn't done it and I'm now in such pain. Chest and throat are on fire. Ive rang 111 and they said they will get someone to call me back in a couple of hours, but is there anything at all I can try Inbetween?? Ive tried ranatadine, cold milk etc and nothing is touching it : (

Buy what? Omeprazole???
I get the same. Have you tried Gaviston? It does give a bit of relief. Also I've found Greek yoghurt soothing, preferably 0% fat.I had to up my Omeprazole dose to 2 tablets a day and much better. Hope you get sorted soon.
Yes, smow - maybe not the strength the GP prescribes you but maybe you can take more than one at a time

Omg by on earth didn't the pharmacy tell me that when I was in there yesterday?? It's shut now. No I've tried Gaviscon - Sadly doesn't work. Christ my throat and chest are on fire
Have you not got a retail park nearish?
Try a supermarket pharmacy, Smow.

Supermarket pharmacies certainly sell ranitidine which I find very effective so it may be worth a trip but I bet they sell omeprazole too
Oh, ranitidine doesn't suit you. :( Still, try the supermarket pharmacies for omeprazole
Amazon sell it, with same day delivery but of course it will work out expensive. Might be worth it to you if all else fails

Retail park - erm there is one about 20 mins away and think it has a giant Boots. Going to give them a call...
You can get good subsitutes in the supermarket, too. I have bought Nexium when I have run out of Omeprazole. It is Esomeprazole 20mg. They are £7 for a 7pack in ASDA
Nexium is much cheaper at Amazon :)
Question Author
Nexium - never heard of that
What did Boots say?

Sorry cant help but you should ask your doctor to test you for h pylori infection.I suffered terrible acid reflux till they sorted my pylori infection out,now totally cured.
Question Author
All sorted - I rang 111and a doctor called me back and faxed a
Description to a pharmacy she found that was open. Just been and collected it. Thankyou to everyone that offered advice - most helpful as ever xx
Spooky. I've just ran out of Omeprazole as well. I do have a supply but I'm not supposed to touch them til I get the rest of my antibiotics so I'm trying to ignore the acid that is building up at the moment.
