The NHS website has a 'real stories' section, with these two people giving details of how IBS affected them and how they found ways to cope with it:

I do and have a lot of pain, cramping and spasms, lots of bloating, gas and other issues. I have Mebeverine and Buscopan. It never seems to be particularly controllable but the meds do help. I also take probiotics on and off, just recently after a course of antibiotics for an infections. The drinks upset my stomach and I try to avoid too much dairy and I don't eat much bread anyway.

I found a lovely breakfast Activia yoghurt with honey and clusters which had probiotic stuff in them but my local shop stopped selling them which is a shame, they do a vanilla one but I'm not keen on that one. It wasn't a very yoghurt tasting yoghurt as I'm not a big yoghurt fan so it suited me.

I avoid wholemeal stuff as well as that tends to make things worse and stay away from lots of onions and stuff like that.

I do have a malabsorption condition too though.
Eve, do you find Buscopan makes your heart race.

I am going through a terribly painful flare up and my Colofac (Mebervine) isn't working. Colpermin gives me the runs.

I take antidepressant Citralpram and not sure if this is ok with Buscopan.
One of the side effects of Buscopan can be an increased heart rate, I personally can't take it due to having Glaucoma.
I don't think it has interactions with Citalopram though as I take that too and it was never mentioned as a no no in that regard.
To add to the comments, I find that the biggest trigger for me is stress rather than anything dietary.
Thanks Mamy and Woofgang. xx
