What Does A Nhs Dental Check-Up Cost?

Just been charged £46.00 for a four minute NHS check-up. Really pleased that I don't have any problems but is that really the normal standing charge?
Have had endless procedures over the last two years for two implants and two bridges so 'got used' to paying huge amounts, so didn't really think about it till I got home.
Surely this amount is not normal?

I haven`t had one for about 2 years but the last time I did, it was about 20 quid (max - can`t remember exactly)
no., that'not right
You have been overcharged. Check up private cost me £32.00.
A truly NHS check-up was £18.50 a few months ago...I think that £46 is the next level, check-up and some work (fillings perhaps).
I thought £46 sounds OTT. I paid about £20 a few months ago and thought that was a rip-off. He didn't do anything but poke around for a few seconds. I advised my son to become a dentist when he didn't know what to do. Looks like easy money.

...perhaps you've paid as a private patient, in error?
That's what annoys me, my dentist does not display a price list and therefore you cannot if you're getting ripped off or not.
I'm over 60 and I get two check ups per year free of charge. Normally have a scale and polish at the same time which costs me £12.

I think I read somewhere that a scale and polish is supposed to be included as part of a basic check up. I've never been offered one. I've had to pay a further £20+ to see the hygienist. I should have asked, perhaps but I'm too shy and wimpy.

From my Link
Band 1 course of treatment – £18.80
This covers an examination, diagnosis (eg X-rays), advice on how to prevent future problems, a scale and polish if needed, and application of fluoride varnish or fissure sealant.
If you require urgent care, even if your urgent treatment needs more than one appointment to complete, you will only need to pay one Band 1 charge.
You don't get free dental anything for just being over 60. You have to be on certain benefits or other circumstances (it's all in Baldric's link).
No PP, I'm not in receipt of any benefits - might just be the Scottish system.
Might I add that it's only a twice yearly check up that I get free. I have to pay for anything else - X-rays, fillings etc etc.

Oh, careful Prudie, people don't read links.
Your link is for NHS England Baldric and as I pointed out I'm in Scotland. Didn't think your link was relevant to me.

Is that one of the English subsidised benefits for the Scots then Maggie?
Perhaps Baldric, like free prescriptions for all.
