Why Do Some People Walk So Slow?

I am talking about fit healthy people, when they are out and about they shuffle along really slow. I notice it more when I'm in town shopping. I always walk briskly whenever I'm out walking, wherever I'm going but I'm forever being held up by slow coaches and a lot of them are young people. Could this be one of the reasons more people are overweight, not moving enough and quickly enough?

they are looking at their phones
I avoid towns for the same reason, perhhaps most people walk slowly to avoid having to dodge the slow walkers.
How do you know that a young person is fit and healthy?

I was diagnosed with arthritis at the age of 15 and have had to put up with ignorant, misinformed folk ever since.
I cannot answer you question as I'm a fast walker, too. I become extremely agitated by such people. I think this is why I hate shopping. I set out on a mission and these slow, indecisive people are shuffling around in front of me, I want to poke them with a stick to speed them up.

I also hate people that stand and chat in the middle of the pavement, leaving passers by to walk on the road to get around them.
Well said Eccles - too many people make assumptions without knowing the facts.
some people never look up from their phones

Ha ha Bazile, thanks for that one.
I would love to be a fast walker, as I once was.
Me too Jackdaw .Unfortunately I have to use a walking stick this days due to severe arthritis but it comes in handy to poke people with :)
I am fit and don't look damaged but I've got two duff knees and if I walk too fast then one or the other give way. I bet that the "other people" don't shuffle and aren't slow, it's just that you want to charge along like a maniac.
I'm very fit and very slim, but I can't see the point of dashing around if I don't need to. I like walking slowly.
I get wound up by the 'older' generation (I'm 62 so anyone older than me really!) that clings to their trolley in the supermarket when they are browsing the shelves, blocking everyone else from getting to the shelf. Also the way that they meet someone in the middle of an isle and never think to stand to one side and have a natter but block the isle for everyone else trying to do their shopping. The french are very good at having family/friend get togethers in the middle of a supermarket and thereby blocking everyone everyone else from getting through for a good few minutes whilst they all 'kiss' each other- I know this because I lived there for 5 years!
I'm 56 & have M/S ,this effects my walking
I have rheumatoid arthritis and am only 36 so I don't walk fast.

I had some young girl who I obviously wasn't walking fast enough for down the aisle of a shop (with my walking stick) call me a "f*ing spastic" as she barged past me. I was upset to say the least.
some rude folk about Eve
There are indeed!
I'm not entirely sure why anyone here is offering reasons. Walking slowly isn't against the law. Why do you feel the need to justify yourself?
I didn't know there was a set speed people had to walk. Stupid question IMO
LOL. It's good to seeh the woman in the fountain had the presence of mind to life her phone.
