Hi All,
I am trying to work out why my shoulders and arms cannot lift even a loaf of bread because of arthiritis, but if i take Tramadol for two or three days i have no pain and can lift 4 year old kids above my head, plenty of strength and no pain, really flying high, so good to be normal again, but why? I just thought my arms had gone weak and had no strength? I could live on those tablets, but i have to sign for them at the pharmacy, and they will stop them soon in case I get addicted?? Yes, let me get addicted and enjoy life again, whats the problem??? Two questions here, thanks.

Tylermoo,
Are they dangerous in any way do you think? Addiction is not a problem as long as the doc keeps supplying them, if you know what i mean, but what is the problem with them being possibly addictive? Is it cost, or can it do damage to the brain?
It acts directly on the central nervous system, blocking pain signals from the nerves to the brain. You can also build tolerance to it meaning you need more of it to work. Think of a drug addict getting hooked and wanting more.

All that happened when I was given them post op was I did not stop being sick for 2 days.

When my husband took just 2 of them he had a seizure and got rushed of to hospital, although he is on other drugs they may have interacted with.

ubasses had a bad reaction
and for you annie Tramadol seems god give

for those that dont puke irretrievably
they swear by Tramadol

and yes wiki clearly says there is room for addiction ....
The best bit was the hospital gave me a packet to take home and then said don't take them, as that is what made me so ill. I could not believe it they would condone such waste.
Annie - I take Tramadol and have no problems, but it is true that you do get used to them so do end up having to take more or stronger ones after a while, but if they work for you that's great.

I am currently on Tramadol and I think Annie makes a good point - she has found something that lets her live with little or no pain and the fear is they may be stopped.

It does seem a dilemma, not every type of pain is transient ,some we are stuck with.

Agree re the tummy and constipation issues, they must be addressed.

UBASSES,
this seizure your hubby had, was it similar to a mini stroke. T.I.A. ?
My o.h. took some tramadol several years ago and was suddenly paralysed down one side. he went to hospital, they said it was a mini stroke, but we wondered if it was the tramadol? ( He was paralysed for 20 mins, been o.k. ever since)
