My wife and myself have been advised by practice nurse that we can now have and injection to prevent shingles as we are now approaching eighty. Has anyone else had this, is it as easy as the flu injection, and are there any after effects. These new things are a worry.

No I haven't had the shingles vaccine and won't.

However, I agree with the practice nurse, shingles is not a "walk in the park" and can be serious in the elderly.

Safe and few side effects..........you and your wife.........go ahead....it makes sense.
Shingles is very nasty - my late Mother had it twice and it really laid her low for a long time. I also know a fellow who had it in his head and that was very nasty.

Be guided by the Doctor.
I've had it and, other than my arm being a bit sore to touch, no after effects
This article echoes much of what the others have said… but adds that nearly half of folks over age 80 are expected to experience shingles (here in the U.S.) and highly recommends the vaccination. Though the article also references a "new" vaccine, the article is dated 2007...
Yes I have been offered this, I become 70 in the new year, so I was given too understand that anyone from 70 can get it. i believe it is a very painful ailment, no problem wiith the injection go for it and Good luck and Good Health.
Mr M had it done at the same time as his flu jab - no sore arm and no after effects.
These vaccines are safe and you should have it
I've had this too.No problems at all.
My husband has had it recently, no problems, very slightly sore arm and that was it.
