Hi all, I have had quite a lot of ear infections over the years and have been told by my GP that it was Otitis Externa and was prescribed Otomize earspray which did the trick the first few times but I think I may have become immunit to it now. I have, over the last couple of weeks, had a terrible brown discharge in my ears that absolutely smells awful and my hearing feels very dull. I am reluctant to make an appointment with my GP because by time the appointment comes around the GP cannot see anything wrong and just says it is Otitis Externa again. Does anyone know what this might be? Thanks.

My first thought is that it is moist wax which is causing the problem.
It needs to be excluded and this can only be done by the GP looking in with his otoscope.

Otitis externa and persistent wax go hand in hand.
You seem to have described the symptoms of otitis externa very well:
