I had a gastric bypass in Aug 12 and from the get -go it didn't seem to work. Jan 13 they 'went back in' and tightened the conection between the new stomach pouch and intestines which had stretched so much you could get a small childs fist in it!!

They tightened it up and off I went. But it has done the same again ( I have a theory why but they don't seem to care about that lol)

After a year of complaining and one melt down they finaly did an endoscopey and low and behold it had happened again.

So here is the rub of it... After a great deal of money, time wasted with a not properly functioning bypass (which means a rapid weight gain very soon) what do they reccomend? Do Bloody Nothing.

I am as mad as a box of frogs and all they can say is manage your weight with diet and exercise. What The Funicular? If I could do that I wouldn't have had it done in the first place.

Regardless of where you live you should be able to hear me screech round about now lol

I'd be definitely peeved too, especially as it sounds like you had it done privately. If this were America, you wouldn't have even written this post, but would have been instructing your lawyer to prepare a malpractice suit...
it may not be America, but have you thought of taking legal advice ?

I know, I wish I could sue.

I paid £6,500 for a gastric band and it didn't agree with me and it slipped so had to have it removed and had the by-pass at another cost of £12,000.

As soon as I told them the by-pass wasn't right I was shunted over to the NHS. Same Dr, same (as seen on TV) consultant, same consulting rooms!!

They even said it was all in my head and told me to see a phsyciatrist (private at £68 an hr). I didn't go and insisted they do something. They (reluctantly) sent me for a barium. Which showed the same as the first time... it wasn't doing the job. They said it was fine though!!! Made another fuss so went for the endoscopey today.

Yeaa at last they admit it isn't right. Boo they don't want to do anytthing :(
Id avise complaining and seeking advice. Although I suspect that this would be included as one of the risks?!

Finaly spoke to a consultant and they have at last admitted that it isn't right.

I am waiting for a scan of my gall bladder to see if I have gall stones and once they know that they will decide what to do. He did say they may try a sort of Fobi Ring but I'll have to wait to speak to the head honcho and the scan first.

Apparently I am a very rare case where I have more elastic cologen!! However I would say that having said the same thing consistantly for over a year AND the same thing happend before (that they went in and tried to fix) they should have taken more notice of me rather than just assuming I was an emotionaly paranoid moaner in need of a shrink.

Anyway at the moment I am more relaxed about it than I have been for long time. I will just worry nearer the time I have see the consultant as I will be worried they will change their minds and do nothng lol

Fingers crossed :) XXX
