I have severe back pain at the top of the rib cage area, have had for about a week and I think its getting worse, what can it be, did a lot of walking on Thursday but it did start before then. I am diabetic (not insulin) and take losartin and atorvastatin, I feel as though i have had a good kicking.

If it is not made worse by eating, then it does sound muscular and nothing sinister comes to mind. Much better questioning is required and your GP is the one for that. Keep us informed.

Not sure that I am with you
"Back pain at the top of the rib cage"....do you mean between the shoulder blades?

Does anything make it better, does anything make it worse?
Is it there all the time or does it come and go?
have you any cough?

Have you taken any pain killers and do they work?

Between shoulder blades, no cough, paracetamol makes it feel a bit better for a time.
