Ear Piercing Going Bad?

Hi
My 5 yr old daughter got her ears pierced about 3 weeks ago. Up to last few days they have been fine. She turns them ok and we clean them with the stuff provided regularly. So last night I noticed that the back of one lobe has a red lump. She hadn't complained until then (and she is a mega drama queen) but really complained when I put the stuff on, and when I turned it, it bled a little and a little watery stuff came out. Just did it again and when I turn the back (big starter back thing) it looks as if the edge has broken the skin. She can't remember bumping it. I done really know what to do for the best. I have heard that you mustn't take out the earring as any infection can get trapped in there. Its not embedded or anything, but i cant loosen the back as it has a ridgy bit to keep it on. Any advice please?

Keep it clean, with saline solution, and take her to the doctors tomorrow morning.
Could be an infection, although you'd normally see a yellow colored fluid with this, or could be an allergic reaction.

Poor mite.
I remember when I had mine done years ago, (did them myself) ended up with really sore infected lobes, turned out that I could only wear 9ct gold as the earrings I had in were just cheap, with bathing and doing this regular they cleared up eventually, so maybe worth checking out metal content of hers
As she's only 5y warm salt water dabbed with cotton wool will help. Dont remove the earring as the hole will seal up.
Yes, make sure they aren't nickel and try salt water or savlon for a couple of days.

They are 18k gold as apparently that is least likely to cause a reaction (and the most bl@@dy expensive!) thank you for the answers. I'm not sure if it is infected as she says it's feels fine until I mess with it. Thanks for the link. I think we will see what Dr says tomorrow. I think that she may have bumped it and it may be bruising.
Are the earring shafts wider than the pierce hole, maybe thinner shafted earrings might help.
I thought it was illegal for children to have piercings before they were 14yrs old?
"Any advice please?"

Yes, take them out and let them heal up!

She's 5 for goodness sake.
It's legal with parent's permission.
B00, personally I agree with with you, I don't like to see little girls with pierced ears - but it's done now, it's lollyone's daughter.
Sorry- ^^ that was me, not nibble (again....)
Not an attractive look for a mega drama queen five year old...
You're right nibble, and Lolly's prolly gonna tell me off for lambasting her for doing it in the first place.

However, as i see it now, the little girls ear is (probably) already infected and could very well start hurting, I personally wouldn't take the chance and take 'em out altogether.
Ah. So not even permission needed. My daughters had their's done at 14 and i had to sign a form. Although my older daughter and friends all pierced each others noses. So that was nice.

Ah now I remember why I left this site before. Aha! I don't have an helpful answer to your question, I'll just be judgemental and air my own opinion.
Thank you for the helpful answers people. I do appreciate this. I'll be off now then.
For Christ's sake BOO, take your bloody size 8's off.

She didn't ask for your advice re. insertion or not, she asked about what to do.
oh please sqad, never stopped you adding your 2p's worth in before on a thread!

However, I do apologise to lolly, but my advice still stands (for what it's worth now, lol) . If there's the slightest risk of infection, take them out, and try again at a later stage.
