Anyone know if there is a single dominant factor which really lowers blood pressure?

If I knew I'd be considering it myself.
The GP did say if I lost weight and ran marathons I might be able to come off the medication.
change in diet i reckon
If you are looking for a miracle cure, you are fooling yourself.

You need to change several lifestyle factors.

Not looking for a miracle cure but, I feel if I prioritised one factor- the others would probably fall into place eg., weight would influence diet and vice versa....
lower your salt intake.
... and get more exercise, and stop smoking (if you do), and cut your alcohol consumption (if that's relevant).

Certainly lose weight, since you mention that.
hypertension is multifactorial in origin and so in order to lower it a multi- disciplinary approach is required like reducing salt intake,weight reduction,removing stress and eating foods which are helpful in controlling hypertension, http://treathypertension.blogspot.com/
