There seems to be quite a few inventions out there

Otherwise there is the free option - Mark one wife!
sue.........the example shown by grasscarp is excellent.

Luckily I don'y wear socks now as the weather is fine for most of the year, but when i lived in the UK, that device was invaluable.
This will work very well PROVIDED THE SOCKS AREN'T TOO TIGHT! I am a retired occupational therapist and I cannot count the number of people of both genders who would say that the sock aid didn't work for them. You would look at what they were trying to put on and it would be either very old nylon socks that had gone like boards or the cheap tubular ones that are supposed to fit all. Get ones that are sold by shoe size with soft or gentle grip tops and no toe seam.
Good shop here but they are not cheap.
