Well after losing 2st 5lbs within a year - my cholesterol level before weight loss was 7.0 - after a recent blood test - got my results yesterday and I have actually gone up to 7.3 - I thought by losing weight I would have come down a notch. I exercise 3-4 times a week - have to because of dog - cut out drinking and eat one main meal a day sometimes I dont even have a main meal. Doctor will be ringing me soon and I will have to go on a tablet - in the meantime could I have helped myself any other way. Thanks for any replies.

Well done on loosing the weight, my previous boss was as thin as a stick insect and his colestrol was off the chart! Doesn't make sense does it?
hiya, did you follow a low cholesterol diet to lose the weight? It's possible to loose weight whilst still eating a lot of cholesterol. some cholesterol cannot be changed by diet - it's genetic
saying you only eat one main meal a day and sometimes skip that isn't really enough info. What is your diet like? Also (and sorry to say) but some people have a genetic disposition to high cholesterol and while eating the wrong diet will raise it, eating the right diet won't lower it and they will always need medical help which seems very unfair to me.
Huge congrats on the weight loss, I wish I could do as well.
No, there is little else that you could do.

Do you feel well?
Is your BP normal?
Have you a family history of high blood cholesterol , heart attacks or stroke?
Have you had an past had in past history of heart attacks?
Have you any underlying medical conditions?

If the answers to the above are all in the negative, then you can live until you are 90 years of age with a cholesterol of 7.3

The doctor cannot force you to go on statins against your will.

Consider his advice and if you are happy...then take it.

Thank you all for your answers - for your attention Woofgang - I stopped "dieting" and worrying about my weight and of course I did cut down - it just fell off - having said that I still have a long way to go - I need to lose another 2 stone but that will be hard.
If worried about cholesterol why not try those cholesterol lowering foodstuffs on the market. They do cost a bit though, and I've no idea what evidence they can offer. But may be worth investing in anyway.

Sqad - thanks for your answer - no I dont have all the things you mentioned. Thank God - but still am disappointed. But then as you say didoatwork - your boss was insect thin he/she cholesterol was off the wall - there ya go. Sometimes I wonder what happened to our parents - mine are passed on - but no doctor checked them out for cholesterol and they just got on with in. Perhaps we take our health too seriously.
depending how old your parents were, there probably 1) wasn't a test for cholesterol and 2) any medication to do anything about it even if they knew
are you cutting out the right foods? a friend of mine cut his cholesterol right down by cutting out eggs, cheese, prawns, crisps, snacky fried foods etc?
could you walk the dog more often as well, i've not had one for years but she used to have to go for a walk at least twice a day?
