Cut Or Colour Hair First?

I have short ish highlighted blonde hair and am looking to achieve the best result from a cut and a colour. I always have my hair cut dry for precision cutting.

There seem to be arguments to cut first and colour first.

Colouring then cutting allows any damaged ends to be removed after the colouring process and allows the hairdresser more hair to 'grab onto' while foiling.

On the downside, if you colour then cut highlighted hair, you can end up with augmented lines which gives you a stripier effect, as you chop into the colour.

Cutting first (dry) then applying the colour might then give the hairdresser a harder job to get a foil over shorter hair. However, it apparently gives a cleaner look.

Does anyone have any advice. The general preference of salons seems to be colour then cut, but several specialists online suggest this is not always the case.

I can't speak for highlights, but my hairdresser always colours my hair before she cuts it.
There have been many posts that should clearly comes under the heading of "BEAUTY" and this would appear to be one of them.

Perhaps the Mods could advice.
or advise, even. :-) Sorry, sqad. I couldn't resist that.
Tilley......;-).....OK.
ha, there's the 'e' again. You are funny.
Mods can't move posts to correct categories sadly.

I always colour then cut but as Boxy says, I don't have highlights but a full head colour.

AB is becoming a shambles recently as ABers seem to be posting indiscriminately.

We now only need about a dozen sections.

No....but you could advice the OP.
I'm not saying anything.
In some respects my little chickadee....
Colour then cut, unless the hair is initially very long, then cut shorter, colour then cut into style.
I can't forget you.....
Advise the poster that they may get answers in Beauty? , well yes of course but the answers are coming in anyway.

Oh well.

mamy....then what is the point of the "sections."

Why not a free for all?
Advise them to duplicate posts?

Do you not remember when we didn't sub-sections, Sqad?
Plus ça change.
Most of us don't really care whether there is a beauty question in body and soul. It might be a different matter i it had been in Health and Fitness.
There is also the fact that some posters don't notice there are sub categories.
NO..............just advise them that in future, use the appropriate section.

Can't be that difficult to understand.
