Right, I have to organise a hen party. Let me make it VERY VERY clear what we will not be doing:-

silly head gear, L plates or fancy dress
taking off our clothes
watching men take off their clothes
going to pubs or clubs where you cant hear yourself think
drinking to excess
silly dares
making t*** of ourselves

So ideas, please. Number one idea so far is a spa day with a nice meal in the evening (and thanks to people who helped with that - you know who you are). Number two idea is a day at the races, but that is looking too be expensive.

I'd really like "the hen" to have a wonderful day to remember, but cant think beyond "spa day and nice meal". Age range is about 21 to 70. One of the 70 year olds has mobility issues so nothing too active. Average age is, ahem, about 40!

Georgraphically we are talking just South East of Manchester. (I've checked all the theatres and nothing really grabs me there, either).

Any ideas appreciated, please.

Are there any bands on in the area?
We hired a cottage overnight for one and did games, dvds etc.
spa sounds good though:-)

There are one or two bands, Carrust, but not one that I think will hit all tastes. Pixie, nice idea, but knowing the Bride, she will start cooking and blummin cleaning. So if we stay out the night it is a hotel job.
Do you know the date?
You can get some quite nice bunk barns. They don't usually need that much housework.
Are there no 'boat trips' on the Manchester Ship Canal, similar to the ones which are on the Thames for wining, dining and seeing the riverside sights?
How about a day out at Chatsworth House and then the meal in the evening (although I'd prefer the spa day!)

There is a boat trip, beegee, but the lady with mobility issues cant "do" boats (something to do with balance).

No dates yet - just a date to be arranged sometime in May. it will HAVE to be a Sat tho so all her work mates can come.

I'd quite like a day at Chatsworth, but I went there with her before and she hated it. Nice idea though.

I'd bloody love that B00. I think the bride would hate it, mind.
Awww, it looks fun too BM- shall me and thee go instead? LOL
eat cake and sit in bubbles.... all day

lol excellent idea B00. I can see this turning into hen party horror!

Fluffs, I think that is where we are going to end up.
A friend went to the dog racing - they had a great time and it didn't cost that much
oooooo fancy that cocktail making one on there Crafty!
What about a mixology class to start the day off (after that I've no idea)

My niece took her hens on a cocktail-making course which they all seemed to enjoy (they did all get ratted in the evening, mind you).

I've heard of people going on a chocolate-making session too, something like this http://www.chocolatedelight.co.uk/index.php?id=2

or you could just look here, there must be similar in other cities :-) http://www.clearcutweekends.co.uk/Packages/Location.aspx?partytype=hen&location=21&gclid=CPn6wfq44LwCFSn4wgod0AkABg
My OH went to Sandown Races for his stag event, they had a great time, another relative who is mad on darts went for a night at the Crucible in Sheffield.
