anyone tried home dying their hair after having foil highlights?

I had foil half head highlights about 4 weeks ago. My natural colour is dark brown and now i have golden highlights which I quite like but rather than go back to the hairdressers for a root colour was wondering what would happen to my hair if I dyed it with a home kit? i.e. would it all go back to being one colour or would the highlighted bits of hair remain lighter than the rest?

The colour would grab the highlighted hair straightaway I'd imagine, the highlights would be more absorbing. I think you'd end up with one all over colour.
Personally, I wouldn't. I stick to the hairdresser for colour and cut.
I tried to dye my hair (which was naturally very dark brown) black. The highlights went purple.....................
Did it look nice craft?
The only time I tried doing my hair at home was a DISASTER. It came out far too 'red', should have been auburn and I got the stuff everywhere. Far too messy imo.
lol rocky this was in the days before punk.............it cost me a fortune to have it put right at the hairdressers.
I tried once and my hair was a riot!!!!!!!

Id stick to th hairdressers too esp cos of the highlights x
DO NOT!! I REPEAT DO NOT ... all it will do will go different colours and go brassy (yellow) ... I have now relised that home dyes ONLY work on brunetts... and also i have a blone friend and some of the states her hair gets into afte home dyes are terrible... so to answer your question the darker roots of your hair wil go a different colour!.... :)
See I have done it - had short hair and had done streaks through it - didn't really like it so did a red dye over it and really like the effect dark in places and light in others - quite fetching really
