I don't really know what you call this liquid in English, but my dishwasher, about 10 years old, has been using a lot of the shining liquid lately. Seems like every other time I use it, the little red light come on. Anyone know why ?

Are you talking about the rinse-aid which is added to a separate compartment in the door? The stuff helps remove any residual water from the dishes after cleaning and might be thought of as shining the dishes. If the red light seems to come on frequently, take a look at the compartment where you squirt the rinse aid in. There's usually an arrow shaped device which you turn one way or the other to alter the amount of rinse aid used during each washing cycle. The chances are that somehow its been set to maximum in your dishwasher. You just need to turn it back a touch.
I honestly believe that rinse-aid is a con. I never use it now and there's no difference in the dishes. Just learn to live with that little red light or, if it annoys you, put water in the rinse-aid dispenser!
