One Fine Day

Although I'm not an Opera fan - I do like many of the better known Arias etc., Can someone give me a brief outline of the story within the beautiful Madame Butterfly aria?
Thank you!

Not sure if you want all of this, but the exact section is about half way down, Act 2 paragraph 17

Thank you so much -what a beautiful tragic story!
Like you Matheous, I'm no opera fan either, but I have the CD for Carmen and for Madame Butterfly and I recommend them both.

Excellent sing-a-long opportunities to be had!
Once you are into Puccini there are some real treats.

Tosca has magnificent music and a good dark plot
La Boheme has great arias and a gut wrenching end.
Turandot is about an ice cold chinese princess with a penchant for having her suitors put to death but the music is superb
A great aria

Phwoar! Anna Trebenko. Oh, the singing what quite nice, too. She always seems to have some mischief in mind. Letting her loose on the Proms one year was a great shock to conservatives, as she suddenly pranced around in mid aria, caressing, and making eyes at, members of the audience, let alone the orchestra.
The Magic Flute is one of my favourites
Sorry I know this is off topic but when I saw the subject the first thing that popped into my mind was.....

One fine day in the middle of the night
two dead me got up to fight
back to back they faced each other
drew their swords and shot one another.

I remember the Magic Flute from school and loved it then.....
I am a massive opera fan, and Puccini is one of my favourite composers.
You can't get more emotive music i think.
one thing though, women very rarely fare well in opera, perhaps in Turandot, but many of the heroines get killed or kill themselves.
