Like you Matheous, I'm no opera fan either, but I have the CD for Carmen and for Madame Butterfly and I recommend them both.

Once you are into Puccini there are some real treats.
Tosca has magnificent music and a good dark plot La Boheme has great arias and a gut wrenching end. Turandot is about an ice cold chinese princess with a penchant for having her suitors put to death but the music is superb |

Phwoar! Anna Trebenko. Oh, the singing what quite nice, too. She always seems to have some mischief in mind. Letting her loose on the Proms one year was a great shock to conservatives, as she suddenly pranced around in mid aria, caressing, and making eyes at, members of the audience, let alone the orchestra.
