Shoot me down for being picky - but nutters, nutjobs, barmpots etc etc are among words that are hurtful and discriminatory towards people suffering mental illness.
..and please bear in mind there is a 1 in 3 chance of you suffering mental illness during your life. I don't say me, because I have my own diagnosis. It's up there with the n-word for describing black people. Would you like to re-phrase your question? |

oh Zacs, you are a .......disturbed but interesting person with lots to contribute to society.....

Sob.....that's the nicest....sob......thing anyone has ever....sob.....said about me |

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is brilliant but it is fiction.

I agree with mosacic - I too thought it was an unfortunate title. Quite hurtful to those who suffer.

It's fiction, but ... Heart Of Darkness by Joseph Conrad

Can either of you actually make any suggestions? Zacs - very funny :) I'd rally rather read more about true accounts about people with mental illness and the people involved with them. |

Without Conscience by Robert D. Hare, PhD "the disturbing world of the psychopaths among us". I found this a fascinating read.
|
|
*Anything* by Oliver Sacks.....his professional experiences combined with real care and concern
for those who -because of what ever strange chemical inbalances or accidents of Nature - are different from what the rest of us consider to be 'normal'. It can be quite scary reading-as it could happen to any of us. |

"Electroboy" by Andy Behrman
It is the author's own tale of his descent into bipolar disorder. It is a huge eye-opener. When you finish it you will really have learned how such people suffer |
