can't remember title or author of book

A historical fiction book recommended to me but the name and author could not be remembered. Could remember parts of book which are a woman is on a ship and the captain marries her for convenience only, he does not want to be married. The captain gets sick and they consummate marriage (he does not realize this). He drops her off in the States and leaves. Later he finds out they consummated the marriage and has to find her, which she is pregnant at this point. (The person recommending thought maybe a Johanna Lindsey, but have not found that to be true)
