kids books that make you cry

My brother and I were recommending children's book titles to each other (we work in different schools). We were laughing at how many of them make us fill up! Sometimes it's hard to read the last page to the children and I have to pass it over to another member of staff! It's much harder for him though, he has to read in front of the whole school as he's the Head! I offered: Are we nearly there yet? Sophie's web Supposing Busy busy busy Can you recommend any?

Depending on the age group, 'Lucas' makes me cry just thinking about it. 'Freak the Mighty' does it as well.

Not a book but a short story "The Selfish Giant" by Oscar Wilde always makes my voice quiver.

"Charlotte's Web" and I HATE spiders!

"The Lion, the Witch and the Wadrobe" when Aslan Dies.

Have a look at Mole and The Bady Bird by Marjorie Newman:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mole-Baby-Bird-Marjori e-Newman/dp/0747561192/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=bo oks&qid=1207942171&sr=8-1

- it's a simple picture book tale about a mole who finds a baby bird fallen out of the nest, so takes it home and looks after it. He grows to love it so much! But his wise grandfather comes along and teaches him that he has to let go of the thing he loves the most - and so he lets the bird go, and as it flies away, I defy you not to shed a tear or two! It's great for showing younger children about dealing with contradictory feelings, and how our actions can affect the happiness of others. The pictures by Patrick Benson are fabulous too!
