The only book that I had to read in school that I then re-read as an adult.

The only thing that tainted it for me was not knowing how 'Quive-Smith' was pronounced. I always read it as 'Keev-Smith'. Was that correct?!

Thanks for that. How did you find it? My site search on "Rogue Male" produced nothing relevant.
I think I copied and pasted Geofrey Household into the search box and it came up (At the time) as an answer, so I clicked on the thread and yours was the first answer.

Thanks for all the help. If you are interested the radio adaptation is now on Radio4 Extra. Twice per day on Mondays. 15 episodes, so quite long.
As far as my feeble memory can recall, in this adaptation it is pronounced 'Kive'. I always wondered what word was being said as, not having read the book or seen the film, it made no sense to me.
