I was a great Binchy fan as well. Her books are the literary equivalent of comfort eating - they always make me feel better. It's so sad that she's gone.

I could never get on with her books - but a respected and highly successful lady. RIP.
Bless her may she rest in peace. I enjoyed her books.
RIP Maeve from me too. I loved her books and will miss not being able to enjoy any more new ones. Very sorry to hear the news. Chox. Perhaps I shall read them all again as a tribute .....
I have never read any of her books, but she was very popular. May she rest in peace.
Believe I read Glass Lake and it was not that memorable; however she had something with the success she had, so I will add my condolences too - it takes talent to communicate and she enthusiastically supported up and coming authors.
I have read most of her books but have never felt the books she wrote in later life were a patch on 'Light a Penny Candle' or 'Firefly Summer' but I was very sorry to hear that she had died. RIP
admired her as a person, but never liked her books, RIP maeve
I am going to miss her wonderful books so much. They are the only books I can read over and over. Her last book "A Week in Winter" comes out 11 Oct.

Once I wrote to her to tell her that I had spotted she and her husband in the film Tara Road. Much to my delight I received a handwritten personal reply which I treasure.

Opening one of her books was an instant feel good shot.
Have just pre-ordered her last book - due to be published in October. Really sad that there will be no more. Wonderful writer.
I can assure you that her books are really re readable so we will have to be content with that. It's nice on this thread that we are all thinking the same things about her.
I have been on holiday, so have only just discovered that Maeve Binchy has died. I love her books - the literary equivalent of hot chocolate, sweet and soothing, and just the thing when you are feeling at odds with the world. I think it was one of MB's characters who said that if a man makes you laugh - you might as well take your clothes off there and then, because its the finest aphrodisiac there is! Lovely, lovely, lovely.
Such a shock when I'd heard she'd died and so sad that there will be no more lovely books from her now. I will read them all again now. Sleep tight Maeve x
