Friend is going to be 40 and looking to buy her a nice present.
She is doing an art course later this year.
Thinking about buying her an easel has anyone got any recommendations?

Maybe start by having a look on Amazon or similar site to see what's available. Will have a word with my friend who is an artist and get back.

Thank you!
Woodelf is a painter so hopefully he will be able to help you. He was posting here the other day.

Any ideas? Thinking of buying Jakar 6627 easel but would appreciate an artists prospective!
sorry Gav - if she is an artist wouldn't she already have one. Something a wee bit original maybe. You could offer yourself as her model's dummy LOL

I did offer to take my clothes off but other female friend said she would need a magnifying glass! How are you feeling?
Winser and Newton for table top ones, and their radials are nice for smaller paintings (standalone). If larger pictures, there's a brand called Loxley and their Hampshires are nice (around 90 quid)

If going outside Newton again, they do a nice portable for around 56 for a sketch easel and just over a 100 for an oil/acrylic one.....depends therefore on what your friend paints and where....
Question Author
She is going to do watercolour paintings though I did not ask what size.
Looking at the £30-£40 mark.
Do you know if she stands or sits.....standing, the Newton Severn at 56 would be sturdier than the Jakar.....desk/table top, I would go for the Tay Table and throw in a couple of sable brushes....always appreciated!

She is attending an art course later in year so unaware of whether she will be standing or sitting. Rather more complicated than I initially thought. Wanted to get something special as it is her 40th birthday and, for me, she is always very appreciative of her presents which makes me want to try harder.
Do you have mutual friends or know her relatives who may know?

I am sure she would appreciate it.

Another one is an A3 block of 10x600g paper by Hahnmuehle - it's 30-35 quid a block and beautiful paper to paint on or draw - I use it for my drawings and it gives so much more additional texture.

Thank you DTC for your answers. Out of curiosity what do you paint?
my drawings are in Art and Literature top page....I sell semi-professionally, painting-wise, I tend to use acrylics and water.....
Question Author
Forgive my ignorance but what do you mean by "my drawings are in Art and Literature top page"? Can I see your art?
see above....

Thank you for the link! You have what I call a good eye! You capture the subtle differences.
