Music Hall Act

Can anyone remember as far back as this?
I vaguely remember seeing an act that was performed on the Music Hall stage but this was done on television. It involved a man trying to get what appeared to be a wooden doll to respod to his instructions but it would go limp and fall about the stage with hilarious results. At the end of the act the 'wooden doll' would turn out to be a young female partner. Does any one know what the act was called and the names of the performers? Thank you in advance.

sorry, I don't, but I saw the same act in a circus in Shanghai in 1982. I suspect others have done the same act through the years.

Oh yes it's an act that apparently went down well, so it's going to attract many imitations. I have an inkling who created it but I want to work back with the help of those who look in on Answerbank.
