E-mail address on threads

I'm just looking in for a few minutes, while browsing through some of the weekend's posts, Mrs-O's to be exact, I came to wonder, to prevent getting upsetting e-mail because you previously provided a throwaway address on a thread, would it be a good idea to go through the Ed? if he agreed of course

I'm thinking for instance, if I needed some sort of help or whatever and another Aber could help better on a 1-1 they could maybe provide the ed with throwaway addy, he send me an e-mail saying something like Mrs-o (e.g) has asked me to forward her e-mail if you wish to contact her off the main thread and if i wished i could reply or ignore, that way the link is not on the main thread for saddos to store until they're bored enough to use it

Like I said, it's just a thought!! for what it's worth I didn't think it properly through

I would use an address that was only used once. On the forum I chat on we have the PM facility. It works very well.

The PM facility worked very well here several years ago - and there was no chance of abuse. People invited only those they wanted to talk to privately and any unwelcome invitations could be declined. Could that be reinstated? I'd welcome it back.

I've put my email addy on here only in regard to a nice chap who mails us the Spectator crossword every week though .I only have one address and can't be bothered to set up throwaways .
If anyone was going to abuse us via email we would have heard about it !
Apart from which if some twazzock decided to give me personally a hard time via email I would just tell them where to go in two words .F.O.

That is only one form of email abuse, though. People can use your email address for all sorts of things which don't involve emailing you personally, including emailing other people and making it appear that the email came from you (relaying), subscribing you to all sorts of unpleasant organisations whose membership may even be monitored by the police, etc...
