Ab Editor: I agree with your sentiment, and I do think that some of the peripheral events might get more publicity than the sporting ones. I'm thinking of security staff being absent; riots about the cost of burgers; lack of parking spaces; ticket holders staging sit-down protests after spending hours being driven around by coach drivers who don't know where they're going. It could be interesting.
