Today I went to see the charity organisation that is set up to help street drinkers. I had a long chat with the staff members and have decided to get on board.

It feels so good to give something back.

You're going to be a street drinker?
Is 'street drinkers' the new word for tramps?
well done Dizmo a worthwhile cause.
Smashing to hear -volunteering is great for all concerned.
Give something back for what?
I think that street drinking is the current trend. I notice lots of young people bustling along the street looking like they lead a hectic and busy life clutching a Starbucks or Costa paper cup. The poorer plebs used to carry a bottle of water.

//Is 'street drinkers' the new word for tramps?//

No...because not all 'tramps' have an alcohol problem.

that is nice Diz ..well done..

it has been outlawed here in Edinburgh..no alcohol to be taken outdoors..not even a picnic in Princes St gardens or you will get a tap on shoulder
That's a bit harsh Murray. Couldn't work here though as the cafe in the park has an alcohol license.
pavement thingies are allowed but only with a licence.....
...andyou have to be sat at a table...
Good for you, Dizmo. I hope you find it rewarding and fulfilling.

Thanks for all the supportive responses. Sorry for not replying last night. It was a busy day and I actually managed to get to bed at a reasonable time.

Svejk: I've had support from organisations in the past and it's very rewarding to give my time back to a charity such as this one.

The charity doesn't just set out to help street drinkers, it's there to help anyone that is homeless or in need of help in the Sheffield area.

Pixie: On a Monday and Tuesday they send out teams of volunteers to known areas. Food, drink (obviously non alcoholic), clothing and are there to offer support. Thursdays and Fridays they have a temporary premises where they provide hot meals to the homeless. They are trying to get permanent location so that they can expand and offer more support. With the help of more volunteers they will be able to do this.
