Jolly good, DSJ. Me too.
What are the rules ?
Question Author
Chip, there is nothing complicated about it. Just spend an hour this weekend noting the maximum number of different kinds of birds actually in your garden. You can submit your answers of thr RSPB website
Question Author
Thanksfor providing the link, Zacs.
Thank's both.
Hopefully now, many more will participate.
Yes Tilly. I do it every year. I notice though that every year, the numbers are dwindling. There are sooooo many cats in my area that bird numbers have really declined year on year.
I certainly will participate(didn't know it was happening) quite normal to see a greater spotted woodpecker, nuthatches and tits etc as we back on to a small wood and always have food and water available for the birds. Let's hope they turn up while I am watching!
Not only do we have a gazillion cats in the area, we also have a similar amount of urban foxes these days.
Did mine this morning and it was rubbish. I'll do another hour tomorrow and see if it's any better.
Since I won bl**ding parakeets in my garden I rarely see small birds except for my resident robin.

I do miss those tits.
Done it.

Did mine too.
Amongst many others, I saw 8 blackbirds, all knocking the stuffing out of each other and 2 blue tits giving the chaffinches some grief. Spring is definitely on its way.
Usual finches and tits for me. A nice surprise was a pair of over wintering blackcaps
Question Author
I saw a blackcap the other day, Melv. I didn't see it today, though. I have never seen a Blackcap before. What a pretty bird.
They are very pretty Tilly aren't they; my friend just emailed me to say he saw a male blackcap in his garden today for the first time ever. I read a couple of years ago that they are over wintering here now a lot more than they used to. Good.
Luck you melv:-))
Will not got the t - shirt as well. Did and hour yesterday at community garden I volunteer at
Did mine today also... But not much in an hour..Was a bit dissapointed...But did see four robins...so pleased about that..This is in the south west.
