Just sitting looking out of my window - thinking that's a socking big buzzard ... get Canon Bins out for a bit of a look ...

It's a RED KITE woohoo - I knew that they were around here, but first time I've actually spotted one from home.

Got Nikon D200 out, but it's pretty murky outside & it's now circled well away - next time maybe :-)

They are spreading...Redman hasn't seen one they are on his target list for this year... couple of coach trips on the M40 will do it... they are amazing birds even more amazing when you have 50 or more in the air all around you and the calls are so spooky
We get the occasional passage migrant around the moors (Sheffield), but we've had no success of them breeding, as with buzzards & hen harriers....Game keepers seem to be the problem :-(
Try putting some dead animals out for it .
Saw one in South Cambridgeshire a few months ago. Had never seen one before (had to ask the RSPB what it was!). They are definitely spreading.
We have them here Dave, good place to see them nesting at Rutland Water near Oakham.
Plenty up here on tyneside :)
