It is a year since I had my lovely golden Labrador put to sleep and I still get constant reminders every day as he was so clever.I know I should give an unwanted dog a good home but I just cannot bring myself to.People have said best thing to do is get another maybe a smaller one but I can't. I can't have another cat as I have 2 birds which are out of cages quite a lot.No question really just having thoughts.

wendilla........in this life......nothing is forever.

Get another puppy and give it a good home.
Hi Wendi, there is no answers to this, I hope in time you will perhaps get another, it will never be the same but it may be therapeutic
I wish you well
Know how you feel. It will get easier. Chin up
It's quite a few years now since my lovely old black cat died, but I still remember him and shed a tear or two for him. I haven't got another animal to care for now. We go away quite a few times during the summer months and this year we'll be away for the first few weeks in January, so I find it better not to have a pet at the moment. I think sometimes I would like to care for another one. There are so many that need good homes wendilla and you can give your spare love to the next one.
Hi Wendilla, I understand how you feel. It's horrible, but having another dog to focus on can help so much. You can never replace an animal, they are all different and have different personalities, but another dog which stop you focusing on your old Lab. and be completely different. It really, really, does help because you will find so many different things to love about a new companion and would grow to love them just a much. I would get a dog that is completely different. x

lol lol as if you would
Get a nice little mongrel. Usually very intelligent and less prone to being neurotic and have less health problems. Not all little dogs are yappy. Mine isn't. She's adorable.

Here she is:

Lots of little dogs needing very good homes ;o)
At least go to your local shelter and take a look.....
PS do keep in mind that dogs can be very untrustworthy where free flying birds are concerned as well as cats.
I would probably come back with all of them Woofie!!
So true Woofie. My cats used to sleep on the bird cages - my dog (not this one) killed one of my birds (and ate it :o( )

Hi Loftielottie she is lovely. And Woofgang I know if I went I would come back with one.
You mind find the parrot would attack the dog. They are jealous things are parrots!!
Question Author
Yes true woofgang but I choose the time to let them out usually about 2 hours in the morning.Never used to let my Lab in room where they were when they were out.
Question Author
Hi loftielottie she is a hannes macaw which are not as large as the maccaws .I would say roughly she is about 3 times the size of the cockatiel and no I would not trust her landing on a dog.
wendilla, it took me nearly three years to get another cat to keep my eldest one compny after the traumatic death of her daughter. i don't know if it was because we'd had her since birth or she was very special, but it hurt too much for a long time to even entertain the idea of getting another or recognise that my older cat needed company too. only you will know when the time is right and will be able to give your heart fully again to a loving and trusting companion. until then, smile at your memories and care for your current beasts who need your attention! take care x

Thank you LCG you brought tears to my eyes reading that .Yes that is what I thought as I don't feel ready yet.
What often happens wendilla is that somethings sort of just turns up when you are not looking and you find yourself with an extension to the family that you didn't plan. Has happened to us a good few times!!
