All 4 babies successfully fledged and flying. They still come back to the porch with their parents every night to roost (and will now do so until they fly to their winter quarters) xxxx

They are beautiful birds, aren't they. Its just so incredible that any of them survive that mammoth journey every year.
Question Author
They totally fascinate me Rosetta. Each year we get them in our front porch. I believe they are the same birds or their offspring. They don't need Sat Nav - much more intelligent than us ;o) x
With my experience of satnav that wouldn't be difficult.
What really amuses me is the way they go full belt towards the nest and pull up quickly at the last minute. How they manage not to brain themselves on the wall is beyond me. LOL

Nice to end my time on AB with a success story!

Just can't be bothered with the site any more, at least for the foreseeable future.

Hope things improve.
I am sorry you are going, I have thoroughly enjoyed talking to you and getting news of your beasties.
we need the voice of moderation and sense around this place. Its a shame that the few are ruining it for the many.
Good luck to you and I hope we get the chance to swap notes again soon.
Dear Lottie - what wonderful news about the new family of swallows! So pleased the little'uns are doing so well.

I shall miss our chats greatly but, like you, I have also had enough of the site and had decided yesterday that enough was enough (particularly after witnessing a lot of the posts which seem to be getting worse and worse every day). The whole site I feel is being ruined by certain individuals. It would be nice to be able to hope that things improve but I can't really see it myself.

So to you Lottie and all the lovely pals on this section (too many to mention), I wish you all the very best and thank you so much for sharing your wonderful messages.

Perhaps in the future I will take a wee peek to see how everyone is, but not yet awhile.

Best wishes - with love Alfie n' my daft but lovable pup.xx

Alfieblue, I am sorry you are going too.
Aw, the people I was getting to know and like are leaving
Love to pup Alfie
alfie , lottie ,dont let them drive you away there are lots of us on here who have been a real help to each other if i could not have been on here and talked to you lot it would have been far harder to cope with the past few months i dont even bother to read their posts or answers you get to know who are genuine and who are not .stay with us .glad your swallows have flown so have ours now not quite so much mess on the bathroom window now bless em we have just watched mother wren get her brood to bed in the ivy above the lounge window we knew she had a nest up there but its the first time we have seen the young ones ,they were all in the bush and she was getting angry at them till they all flew up into the ivy now all is quiet
you know what the problem is the kids are on school hols so i expect we have got some bored little dears coming on to wind everybody up not many more weeks of hols to go hopefully AB will become nice again
Question Author
Expect I'll be back, but at the moment it's such a pain just using the site, especially as there are a couple of jokers (not school kids, but so-called adults) who seem to be having fun ruining all the other sections.

Just haven't got the time at the moment to trawl through all the rubbish to get to the worthwhile posts.

Love to all of you lovely animal and nature lovers and see you when hopefully AB admin have actually put some work into the site.

In the meantime I will miss our chats and all your news.

Take care

au revoir (not goodbye :o) )

ps Opened the front door to a caller this morning and three of the four babies flew in! (much to the caller's great surprise) Fortunately, after a quick look round my hall and study they all flew out again!!!

Dear little things. They are all roosting on the ledge now for the night.
x
you made me laugh i bet they looked like the dam busters .we had the toad indoors the other day my husband is not very keen on them he always shouts for me when cassie is sorting the frogs out so you can imagine his face when he found the toad indoors the tortoise has also now learnt to get up the back step my son came in the other day to find the tortoise sunning his self in the lounge, the tame magpie has not been about for a couple of weeks now so hopefully he has made his own way and not been got by a cat i know what you mean by not having the time ,there is so much to do outside i spend as much time as poss in the garden i do any hand sewing outside and if not warm enough outside i will sit in the green house and work (i work from home sewing ) got to make the most of the weather as it will be a long winter wont it
i do hope loftylottie that you and alfieblue will come back to this site from time to time as i will miss our chats too. im back from hols and sad to read that your leaving this site. i have two superglue cats at the mo as they are back from the cattery and not wanting to go too far from our sides, margo had won the cattery owners daughter round and she'd brought margo a toy to play with, (i always knew margo was a strumpet) xxxxx
Question Author
Just popped in to say hello and to see if things had improved!! Nice to hear from you Madaboutcats. Glad to hear your cats enjoyed their holiday (although they will tell you they didn't!!) and hope you enjoyed your holiday too.

Will continue to visit my friends in A&N at least occasionally and hope that this site gets some moderation soon!!

xxxxx
hello loftylottie glad to see you paid a quick visit, we didnt get the cold shoulder from the cats which i did think we might get, infact i woke up at least three times through sun night to find cupar lying on my chest with his bum in my face. margo keeps creeping under the throw on the sofa to hide just incase we are thinking of sending her away again.xx
Lofty - just to let you know, mine have just fledged their second brood this summer. Please don't go - I haven't been on here for a while, same reason as you, as well as busy busy with the farm & work, but still worth popping in once in a while! K xx
Question Author
Hi again,

Nice to hear from you Kleiber and glad the second brood have fledged successfully. The two parent swallows plus the four young spend their days around our garden and the field beyond and I have noticed that the youngsters are getting much stronger on the wing. It's nice to see the six of them all together most of the time, flying high in the sky. At night they come back to our porch to roost (all six) and each parent seems to roost with two chicks and keep guard! - They have it all worked out. I really shouldn't get so personally involved with wild birds, but they are now 'my' swallows!

They don't even mind now when the porch light goes on - just sit there and look at us!!

Weather is changeable at the moment at some of the trees are already changing colour!!

Take care all of you. See you soon.

Hi everyone. How lovely to read your messages - just had a wee peek.

So nice to read your news.

Just been cleaning pond and discovered 5 froggies. The kermits have been bouncing around the lawn, followed by bouncing pup!!! Pup wouldn't hurt them but he just can't understand when he goes up to sniff them - that they leap off. Have just brought him indoors now so kermits can retreat back to the pond in peace!!!

Still lots of birdies and visitors in the garden: Robin redbreast still on the case of zooming in on pups rearend!!!
Guess Robin rules the garden at the mo!!! Hope you are all well. Love from alfie n pup :o=)

Just realised that this thread is now considered 'old' and new postings don't appear in the 'Recent post' section. So hopefully the trolls and idiots will not latch on to it. Feel free to use it as a pets and nature thread until our luck runs out.

Hi Alfie,

LOL about the frogs, my little Meggy dog is obsessed with toads at the moment. She sniffs them out and then jumps high in the air when they jump out at her!! It's a case of who can jump the highest.

Love to you and Pup
xx

You are so right Lottie - the trolls hopefully don't touch old threads!!!

Lovely to hear from you and lol about your wee pet! It's like a breath of fresh air after the going ons over the last few weeks/months. I hope the trolls don't latch on - oh well, if they do, then we shall just ignore them.

I miss chatting to everyone, hearing all the wonderful news, and why should the minority spoil it for us. The nature threads are lovely and if they are plagued, lets just report and ignore. Lets see how it goes in the next few weeks or so - would be nice to get a nature thread up and going again. :o)

Froggies are all back in pond and pup is sending up the zzzz's! All that bouncing has worn him out!!!

Love to you all. xx
