It's the movement of air from high to low pressure areas. For various reasons, it rarely goes in a straight line, and develops gusts.

Are you old enough to remember proper weather maps, with fronts and high- and low-pressures marked?

In simple terms, the high- and low-pressure areas are in essence created by large masses of warm and cold air interacting and rising or falling.

Do you mean wind as in weather, or wind as in flatulence?
