My daughters front hedge is seemingly infested with white tailed bumble bees. Seems to be hundreds of them. But the hedge doesn't have any flowers. It's more like large plants with large, long, pale green leaves. The bees are only concentrating on the back of the leaves, along the stalk. The leaves don't appear to have anything growing on them but the bees are all over them. Seems odd to me but I'm definitely no expert! I've tried googling this but can't see anything relevant to feeding off just leaves. Any ideas anyone? TIA.

I think that some young leaves, particularly Laurel, secrete nectar from the back of the leaves. The white tail you mention is not where the bees have collected the nectar and pollen is it?
White tailed are a species of bumblebee, I've got loads at the moment on my cotoniasta, along with red dumped.
/rumped/ lol.
Do you know what the species are what make up the hedge ?

I wondered if 'Leafcutter' are a possibility ??
